I got my first Kindle in April, 2008. I bought it to give as a high school graduation present, but of course I had to play with it first. I liked it so well that I bought myself one for my birthday in July.
The feature I like best is the ability to download a book or a newspaper or a magazine instantly. When I travel, or even when I go out and know there will be some waiting time, I can take an entire library with me on the Kindle. I’m never without something to read. If I forget my reading glasses, I can resize the type. And I find it easier to hold than a paperback.
One of the nicest things about owning a Kindle is that there are plenty of free books available for it. You can download them from Amazon.com. Just go to the Kindle store and sort the books from lowest to highest price.
Quite a few authors and publishers are beginning to realize that giving away an ebook costs them nothing and helps build an audience for an author’s work. I have noticed that often, when an author has a new book coming out, one of their old ones will be released for free or for a minimal amount on Kindle.
I have priced the Kindle version of Book I of my trilogy, When Women Were Warriors, at 99 cents, which is the lowest amount Amazon will let me set, but I also make it available as a free download from this website (see Free ebook offer).
Amazon also offers the Kindle 2, which has some nice new features. If you click on the picture of the Kindle to the right, it will take you to Amazon’s Kindle pages, where you will find lots more information.
