Snow Cake

with Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman

Sigourney Weaver has been a favorite of mine ever since Aliens. She finds the weirdest projects sometimes, and this is one of them. I rented the movie because she was in it, and because I also like Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies.

Snow Cake is an odd movie. After I watched it the first time, I thought it over for awhile, then rented it again. After renting it four times, I thought I might as well buy it. Often, after I actually buy a movie, I never watch it again, but I’ve watched my own copy twice now, and probably will a few times more.

The description of Snow Cake is off-putting. Don’t read it. This is one of those movies that, the more you know about it, the less you know about it.

The Trip to Bountiful

with Geraldine Page, John Heard, and Rebecca De Mornay

Geraldine Page won an Academy Award® for her portrayal of an old woman who only wants to return to the place where she grew up before she dies. If that sounds like a downer, well, it isn’t, but have a hanky handy anyway.

My favorite line from the movie, one of the most profound lines I’ve ever heard or read, is: Me. You.
Of course to get the full effect, you have to hear it in context. So go rent the movie. Or better yet buy a copy. It rewards repeated viewings.
